(922) TOUR – Mokelumne River Rendezvous – November 5, 2022

 

Take a light morning hike along the lower Mokelumne River as it spills from Camanche Dam. Birding experts Liz West and Joanne Katanic will share their knowledge about the local landscape and help you scout 35+ species including bluebirds, night herons, several woodpecker species, mergansers, Osprey and other raptors. As an added treat, keep an eye out for spawning salmon as they complete their journey from the Pacific Ocean!

Tour time: 7:30 – 9:30 a.m.

All tours begin and end at the Mokelumne River Day Use Area (25800 N. Mcintire Rd, Clements, CA) Look for the hut at the entrance to the parking lot to find your guides.

Tour guides will receive a list of customers who have registered by October 30, 2022.

Customers who register online for a tour after that date must show the guide a hard copy or phone display of the email receipt. The receipt may go to your spam folder.

Unsold tickets will be available during the festival and can be purchased on this website.

Meet your guides in the parking lot at the Mokelumne River Day Use Area t 7:30 a.m. Watch for the entrance hut on your left.

Contact the Registration Coordinator in advance at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org if special accommodations are needed.

TOURS TAKE PLACE RAIN OR SHINE.

Cancellation Policy: Full refunds (minus a 3% processing fee) are available prior to a tour upon the customer’s request at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org. A full refund is automatically issued for any events cancelled by the festival organizers.

Liz is an active birder with many experiences in the area. She has lead numerous tours for the Lodi Sandhill Crane Association.
Joanne Katanic
Joanne is an experienced birder and has lead many tours along the Mokelumne River.

We arrive at the Mokelumne River Day Use Area and the tour begins.

It is best to dress in layers.  The river can be very cool in the morning and evening, but quite warm in the afternoon.

There is no food or water available on this tour, so participants are encouraged to bring a snack and a bottle of water if they like.

No, this tour does not require a Lands Pass.

Binoculars and a spotting scope may be brought on this tour.  The day-use  area is fairly thick with trees, so a spotting scope may be of little use.

You should definitely bring your camera.

Yes, handicap accessible restrooms or port-a-potty is available at the tour site. Nevertheless, everyone should use the restroom before the tour begins.

This tour requires the ability to walk a mile or two over generally level and even terrain. Some parts of the trail require good balance and agility.

This tour requires the ability to stand for at least an hour.

There may be handicap parking available near the trail.

The trail is not wheelchair accessable in many areas.

In general, it is not acceptable to bring dogs to the festival or on tours because they may interfere with other participants or disturb wildlife. Service animals must be handled so as not to disturb other people or wildlife. 

There are many insects, including mosquitos near the water, so long sleeve shirts and long pants are recommended. Insect repellent is recommended.
