Haiku - An Introductory Writing Workshop

DATE:  November 8th, 2025

TIME:  Ongoing from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

PLACE:  Thomas Theatre – Hutchins Street Square, Lodi, CA

Haiku is an ancient poetry form originating in Japan and now enjoyed and written world-wide. It is well known for its focus on nature and the natural world, and its brevity—each poem a bare 17 syllables, a single breath of observation, a word-sketch, a poetic field-note.

If you have words and you can count, then you can participate in this workshop and learn the basics of haiku, along with the other participants.  No experience or poetry skills are needed.  We will write and compose together, and we will write and compose on our own.

Intergenerational – open to all ages.

Jerry Bolick has been writing and studying poetry for over fifty years—this began with his discovery of haiku. Over the last 25 years he has volunteered as a literacy coach with San Mateo County Libraries, has conducted poetry and writing workshops with women in recovery, at the SF County Jail and the San Mateo Co. Youth Facility. More recently, he has conducted haiku workshops at every San Mateo Co. branch library and several county schools, with youth of all ages and adults.

THIS IS A FREE WORKSHOP
