Have you ever wondered how to photograph birds and other wildlife?  Do you want to improve your photography skills or wonder what camera and lens you would need to get started?  Jennifer and Walt will explain cameras, lenses, and other equipment you might need.  For those who have attempted to photograph wildlife and would like to improve your skills this workshop will offer helpful guidance.

This introduction to photographing wild birds will focus on Sandhill Cranes.  Topics include basics of birding, ethical considerations, predicting bird behavior, and locations for observing and photographing.  Jennifer and Walt will cover basic cameras, lenses, and other accessories.  Basic camera settings, best times of day, dealing with wind and weather conditions will be discussed.  Photographing birds in flight and birds that are stationary, as well as photographing birds in your backyard.  You are encouraged to sign up for one of the tours offered at the festival or schedule time on your own.  Your presenters will offer a follow up meeting via Zoom where you will be able to share your work and receive helpful coaching.  Date and time of the Zoom meeting will be announced at the workshop.

Jennifer Kibbe Day has extensive experience photographing Sandhill Cranes in the wild and has taught introductory courses in digital photography.  With experience in post-processing digital images using Adobe Light and Adobe Photoshop, her photographs have been displayed in Sacramento businesses and local art shows.

Walt Hess has been photographing wildlife for many years.  He has invested many hours photographing Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, and backyard birds.  Walt has gone on safari in Africa to photograph birds and other wildlife.  Now retired, he serves as a volunteer docent with the Sacramento Zoo.
