Sandhill Cranes and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta – Dr. Gary Ivey
Dr. Ivey’s presentation will focus on issues facing the Sandhill Crane populations that winter in California’s Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, sharing insights from his extensive research. He will discuss the behavior, distribution, biology, and conservation requirements of the three Sandhill Crane subspecies in the Pacific Flyway that we see locally.
Dr. Gary Ivey has studied cranes for over 30 years. As a Research Associate with the International Crane Foundation, he has been a featured speaker and tour guide throughout the history of the Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival. Dr. Ivey has worked with wildlife for over 40 years, concentrating his work on waterbirds, waterfowl, and wetland conservation. A recognized expert on Sandhill Cranes in the Pacific Flyway, Dr. Ivey studied nesting ecology of Sandhill Cranes for his Masters’ Thesis and wintering ecology of Sandhill Cranes for his PhD, both from Oregon State University.
