Bats play an essential role in the environment and are often misunderstood. NorCal Bats is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of bats and is committed to public education regarding the environmental benefits of bats, dispelling fears and myths that lead to the death of roosts and colonies. Charlie Russell will share information about bats and introduce us to some of these winged wonders.
Located in the Sacramento Valley, Northern California Bats’ trained volunteers care for injured and orphaned bats throughout the valley and surrounding foothills. Learn about these highly valuable animals and their importance in insect control.
All live bats presented the program are certified as non-releasable by California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the U.S. Department of Agriculture as injury precludes them from surviving in the
Charlie Russell has been a volunteer with NorCal Bats since 2019, specializing in public outreach and education. He is a Certified California Naturalist with a wide range of interests in both plants and animals, as well as being an avid nature photographer (https://ibrakeforwildflowers.com/). In addition to working with NorCal Bats he volunteers with the Yolo Basin Foundation (introducing grade school children to wetlands) and is a docent at Jepson Prairie Preserve (leading vernal pool tours).
