— Our Story

A Community Inspired by Cranes

The Lodi Sandhill Crane Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting awareness and understanding of the magnificent Sandhill Cranes that have wintered in the California Delta for thousands of years.

Our story began in 1996, when a group of passionate volunteers joined forces with the City of Lodi, the Lodi Chamber of Commerce, and the California Department of Fish and Game—now the California Department of Fish and Wildlife—to plan a celebration honoring the cranes that return to our region each year.

The first Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival was held in 1997. The event was an immediate success and quickly grew, attracting visitors from across California and beyond.
