When planning a unit of study about Sandhill Cranes, it is a good idea to focus on key concepts like, migration, reproduction, adaptations, habitat, communication and natural history. Review the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as you develop the unit for guidance. By doing so, students have the opportunity to build conceptual understanding, as well as factual knowledge. First hand experience is the best way to learn, but it is important to frontload background experiences before organizing a field study trip or a similar activity.
