TIME: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

DESCRIPTION: Join us for a two and a half mile walk along the Mokelumne River levee on Staten Island to see how agriculture and migrating birds can live in harmony. Staten Island biologists will highlight agricultural practices that enhance wildlife habitat. From the vantage point of the levee, which is not open to the public, you will see a wide variety of migrating birds in diverse settings. There will be opportunities to see Sandhill Cranes in areas where they feed.

LANDS PASS: No Lands Pass is required for this tour.

TRANSPORTATION: You will drive your own vehicle.

CHECK-IN: Meet your guide at the information kiosk by the grain silos on Staten Island Road at 8:50 a.m. The tour will begin at 9:00 a.m. Prepare for a two-mile hike along the levee.

NOTE: It would be a good idea to bring binoculars.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE: Choose an option and select the number of reservations you wish to purchase. No actual tickets will be issued. You will receive an email to confirm your reservation (Check your Spam Folder if you do not receive one) On the day of the tour your guide will have a list of participants and will check you in. 

WAITING LIST PROCEDURES: If you try to register for a tour that is full, you may be given the option to get on a waiting list. The waiting list is limited to the first few customers who attempt to register. If space becomes available these customers will be notified by email that they have 48 hours to register for the tour. After 48 hours, the space(s) will be open for registration on a first come-first serve basis. This system is fully automated. Our volunteer staff will not be able to let you know if you are on the waiting list.

LATE REGISTRATION: If you register for a tour after the deadline, please bring a copy of your confirmation email to show your guide or show confirmation on your cell phone.

DIRECTIONS TO THE TOUR: Take the Walnut Grove/Thornton Road exit on Interstate 5.  Drive west on Walnut Grove Road about 10 miles. Look for Staten Island Road on your left. This tour begins and ends at the grain mill on Staten Island. This is the large structure with grain silos that is located on Staten Island Road just south of Walnut Grove/Thornton Road. Parking is available next to the mill.

INSTRUCTIONS: Meet your guide at 8:50 a.m. by the grain mill for check-in and prepare for a two-mile hike along the levee. Parking is available next to the mill. This tour takes place during harvest, so watch carefully for farm equipment and large trucks.

DRIVE TIME: Drive time from Hutchins Street Square in Lodi, California to this tour is approximately 35 minutes.
