Art FAQ

Here are some frequently asked questions we get regarding art. Click on a topic to read more. If you have additional questions, please email us at art@lodisandhillcrane.org. Thank you.

How does the jurying process work?

After the entry deadline digital images of all submitted entries will be viewed by the jurors. Selection is made with consideration based on the rules as stated in the Call to Artist.

How do I know if my work is accepted?

A time line will be posted in the call and artist will be notified via email usually within a week of the entry deadline about their acceptance/rejection.

Can I drop my artwork off at any other time than stated in the Call to Artists?

Unfortunately, we are not able to utilize the rooms at Hutchins Street Square other than the specified date and times.

Do I need to frame my 2D artwork and why does it have to wired?

YES! All two-dimensional artwork must be ready to hang on the gallery wall when you hand-deliver your work at the scheduled time. We use the Walker Hanging system and rely on the securely attached wired to hang artwork flat against the gallery panels. Do not use saw-tooth hangers.

Unframed, stretched canvas pieces are acceptable as long as they are ready to hang with wire hangers and the sides are given appropriate attention and care. The sides of your canvas will be visible and need to be treated as carefully as the rest of the piece. If your piece requires a different presentation or hanging method, please contact us directly to discuss it. Exceptions can be made only if it is intentional, necessary, and approved by the Art Show volunteers.

Can I enter my mail?

Yes, you may fill out the form online or you can download and carefully fill out the Entry Form and mail it to us.

What is the People’s Choice Award?

During the Opening Friday evening and most of Saturday visitors to the Art Show have the opportunity to vote on their favorite piece of artwork. Votes are tallied and the piece with the highest number of votes is awarded the People’s Choice Award.
