Sandhill Crane Festival

Exhibition Dates: November 4-6, 2022

The Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival is soliciting original artwork for its art show. Art will be displayed as part of the 2022 Festival at Hutchins Street Square in Lodi, CA.

There are 2 divisions — Fine Arts (oil, watercolor, pastel, sculpture, etc.) and Photography.

Two subject categories will be displayed and judged in each Division:

1) Sandhill Cranes in CALIFORNIA

2) Other California wildlife and their natural habitats.

Judging and Awards

Fine Art and Photography will be given “People’s Choice Awards” by visitors to the exhibit hall. Visitors will vote for their favorite artwork in each division during the show Opening Night through Saturday at 2 PM.

What are the People’s Choice Awards?

During the Opening Friday evening and until Saturday at 2 PM visitors to the Art Show have the opportunity to vote on their favorite pieces of Art.  Votes are tallied and those with the highest numbers of votes will receive People’s Choice Awards.

Cash prizes will range from $100 to $250.

Submissions

Show inclusion will be determined from digital images. Please submit one image per entry; for 3-dimensional works or for certain 2-dimensional works where detail is essential, two digital images per entry will be accepted.

Digital images TIFF or JPEG file (300 DPI preferred) must be submitted via online entry and payment.

Entry dates

Entries will be accepted from September 5th through October 10th.  DEADLINE OCT 10th.

Entry Fee

There is a non-refundable fee of $10 for each entry; each artist may enter up to 4 pieces in each category (Sandhill Cranes or Other CA Wildlife).

Artists will donate 25% of any art sales to the Lodi Sandhill Crane Association.

Selection

The Festival Art Committee retains discretion as to what constitutes suitable or appropriate artwork to be included in the show. Artists will be notified by October  20, 2022 if their art is accepted.

Eligibility

There are no age restrictions. All artwork must be original and the property of the artist submitting the work. No substitutes of accepted artwork will be allowed.

Any 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional art media are accepted, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, photographs, pencil, pen & ink, and charcoal drawings, prints, mixed media, sculpture, and ceramics. No limited-edition prints, airbrush, crafts, or computer-generated or computer-manipulated artwork will be considered. Camera add-on lenses, filters, and scopes are permitted.

Photographs must be taken in California to be consistent with the theme of California wildlife and their natural habitats.

Two-dimensional artwork must be suitably framed, wired, and ready to hang, and may not exceed 48” in width or 36” height, including frame. NO unfinished canvas edges, protruding nails, staples or saw-tooth hangers. Gallery wrapped canvases with painted edges are accepted. Use braided wire and flat brackets to attach wire and tape wire ends. Diptychs, triptychs, etc. must be connected, wired and ready to hang. Any artwork not ready to hang as specified will NOT be accepted for show. Three-dimensional pieces must have a firmly attached base and may not exceed 50 pounds.

If the artwork requires any special hanging hardware, stands, or display directions, they must be included with the artwork and artist may be called upon to assist.

Each artwork must have a label securely attached to the back or bottom with the artist’s name, address, phone number, title of work, medium, and price or Not for Sale (NFS).

Please note: Titles or prices will not be changed after entry.

Agreement

Utmost care will be taken in the handling and security of your artwork. By participating, you agree to hold harmless the Lodi Sandhill Crane Association Board of Directors and associates, the Lodi Arts Commission, and Hutchins Street Square for any damage or theft that may result from your participation. Insurance is the responsibility of each artist.

Accepted artwork should be delivered to the Cottage Room of Hutchins Street Square either Thursday, November 3rd, from 3 to 7 PM or Friday, November 4th, from 8 to 11 AM. Artwork must be delivered ready to hang, with the appropriate hangers on the back of the frame and labeled.

Artwork must be picked up at the end of the Festival on Sunday, November 6th, between 3 and 5 PM. If the artist is not able to pick up unsold art on Sunday between 3 and 5 PM, arrangements should be made in advance. Any shipped art must be prepaid with a self-addressed label and appropriate packaging included for return. Artwork left after one month becomes the property of the Lodi Sandhill Crane Association.
