TOUR #2624 – Crane Fly-In WER North Unit #2 – November 2, 2024

DESCRIPTION: This tour has all the excitement of the other fly-in tours in the area, but visitors will be able to view the Sandhill Cranes (and other birds) from the comfort of a viewing shelter. Seating is provided and maps, charts, and pictorials are on display. Also, visitors will be treated to a presentation by Department of Fish and Wildlife docents. The Woodbridge Ecological Reserve North Unit is generally closed to the public, so it is not uncommon for the cranes to settle in up close and personal.

 TOUR TIME: 5:15-6:30 p.m.

 NOTE: Binoculars or a spotting scope will be helpful.

 DIRECTIONS: Drive west from Interstate 5 on Woodbridge Road for 2 miles. Look for the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve NORTH UNIT sign on your right.

LANDS PASS: All participants are required to carry a current Lands Pass, fishing or hunting license. Go to https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/licensing/lands-pass for more information about how to purchase a Lands Pass. You will be required to show your pass or license at that time. For more information about CDFW tours during the season go to this CDFW website.

LATE REGISTRATION: Customers who register online after October 26 must present a hard copy or phone displaythe email receipt to their tour guide at the time of the tour.

REGISTRATION AT THE FESTIVAL: Unsold tickets will be available during the festival and can be purchased on this website.

TOURS TAKE PLACE RAIN OR SHINE.

Cancellation Policy: Full refunds (minus a 3% processing fee) are available prior to a tour upon the customer’s request at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org. A full refund is automatically issued for any events cancelled by the festival organizers.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife Docents

Meet your guide at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve parking lot at 4:55 pm. It is important to be on time. Once the group leaves for the shelter, the gate will be closed. You may miss your tour if you are late.

Drive to the WER North Shelter, park with headlights facing away from the fence and the tour begins. 

It is best to dress in layers.  The delta can be very cool in the morning and evening, but quite warm in the afternoon.

There is no food or water available on this tour, so participants are encouraged to bring a snack and a bottle of water if they like.

Yes, a Lands Pass, hunting license, or fishing license is required.  Information about how to purchase a Lands Pass can be found at https://wildlife.ca.gov/licensing/lands-pass.

Binoculars and a spotting scope may be brought on this tour if they can be held on your lap. There may be limited space in the shelter.

You should definitely bring your camera.

Yes there is a port-a-potty available at the tour site. Nevertheless, everyone should use the restroom before the tour begins.

This tour is fully accessible and requires limited physical effort.

This tour may require the ability to stand for at least an hour.

This tour site has hard surfaces with some unevenness and or slight inclines. It is wheel chair accessible to most viewing areas. Seated customers will need to be able to see over a three foot barrier.

Yes, handy cap accessible restrooms or port-a-potty is available at the tour site. Nevertheless, everyone should use the restroom before the tour begins.

In general, it is not acceptable to bring dogs to the festival or on tours because they may interfere with other participants for disturb wildlife. Service animals must be handled so as not to disturb other people or wildlife. 

There are many insects, including mosquitoes in the delta, so long sleeve shirts and long pants are recommended. Insect repellent is recommended.
