TOUR #423 – Crane Fly-In Woodbridge Ecological Reserve NORTH UNIT #1 – November 3, 2023

This tour will sell out early! The tour takes you to the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve North Unit which is one of the main Sandhill Crane roosting areas in the Delta. Seating is provided and maps, charts, and pictorials are on display. Also, visitors will be treated to a presentation by Department of Fish and Wildlife docents.

LANDS PASS REQUIRED: All participants are required to carry a current Lands Pass, or fishing or hunting license.  Go to https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/licensing/lands-pass for more information about how to purchase a Lands Pass. You will be required to show your pass or license at the beginning of the tour.

 TOUR TIME: 4:50 – 6:30 p.m.

NOTE: This Friday night tour may cause customers to arrive back at Hutchins Street Square after the Opening Dinner begins. We will hold you a plate if you are registered for the dinner.

DIRECTIONS: Drive west from Interstate 5 on Woodbridge Road for 2 miles. Look for the sign on your right.  Meet your guide at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve North Unit Parking lot.

Tour guides will receive a list of customers who have registered by October 28, 2023.

Customers who register online for a tour after that date must show the guide a hard copy or phone display of the email receipt. The receipt may go to your spam folder.

Unsold tickets will be available during the festival and can be purchased on this website.

This map can be used to search for the best route to your tour from your current location. Drive time from Hutchins Street Square in Lodi, California to this tour is approximately 20 minutes.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Meet your guide at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve NORTH UNIT parking lot at 4:50 p.m. After a brief orientation, you will drive a short way on a gravel road to the viewing shelter. Please park your car with your headlights facing away from the fence. Once inside the shelter, please do not walk outside the shelter until the end of the tour (except to use the porta-potty).

QUESTIONS REGARDING REGISTRATION: Contact the Registration Coordinator at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org or leave a message at (800) 581-6150. Notify the Registration Coordinator in advance if special accommodations are needed. Expect a response from the Coordinator within the week.

Cancellation Policy: Full refunds (minus a 3% processing fee) are available prior to a tour upon the customer’s request at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org. A full refund is automatically issued for any events cancelled by the festival organizers.

Check in with your guide at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve NORTH UNIT parking lot. Look for it on your right.

Please arrive early. Once the tour begins, the gate will be closed and you may miss your tour.

It is best to dress in layers.  The delta can be very cool in the morning and evening, but quite warm in the afternoon.

There is no food or water available on this tour, so participants are encouraged to bring a snack and a bottle of water if they like.

Yes, a Lands Pass, hunting license, or fishing license is required.  Information about how to purchase a Lands Pass can be found at https://wildlife.ca.gov/licensing/lands-pass.

Binoculars and a spotting scope may be brought on this tour if they can be held on your lap. There may be limited space in the shelter

You should definitely bring your camera.

Yes there is a port-a-potty available at the tour site. Nevertheless, everyone should use the restroom before the tour begins.

This tour is fully accessible and requires limited physical effort.

This tour requires the ability to stand for at least an hour if no seat is available.

This tour site has hard surfaces with some unevenness and or slight inclines. It is wheel chair accessible to most viewing areas.

Yes, handy cap accessible restrooms or port-a-potty is available at the tour site. Nevertheless, everyone should use the restroom before the tour begins.

In general, it is not acceptable to bring dogs to the festival or on tours because they may interfere with other participants for disturb wildlife. Service animals must be handled so as not to disturb other people or wildlife. On bus or boat tours, service animals must sit on their owner’s lap because of limited space.

There are many insects, including mosquitoes in the delta, so long sleeve shirts and long pants are recommended. Insect repellent is recommended.

    The Woodbridge Ecological Reserve is one of the few locations where Sandhill Cranes consistently roost in the Delta. At dusk, in large groups that can number from several hundred to several thousand, the cranes converge on the South Unit’s flooded fields for the night. CDFW Docents will give a presentation on the cranes in a private viewing area. The cranes determine end times for evening tours.
