DESCRIPTION: NEW THIS YEAR! Anyone who is interested in knowing more about how modern zoos contribute to conservation of endangered species and rehabilitation of injured wildlife will find this tour fascinating. Children of all ages will enjoy a leisurely stroll around Micke Grove Zoo, which is part of a large regional park. This small zoo provides an intimate setting with numerous species found in Madagascar as well as examples of local wildlife. Join us at Hutchins Street Square for festival activities and cap off your day with a guided tour of the zoo. This special behind the scenes adventure is led by zoo staff, who will share information about how they care for the animals. Participants will learn how zoos interact with each other to promote conservation of endangered species through preservation of gene diversity. Mike Grove Park is a haven for local migratory bird species, so avid birders will want to so some birding in their natural habitat after the tour.
