TOUR #824 – Mokelumne River Rendezvous – November 2 2024

DESCRIPTION: Take a light morning hike along the lower Mokelumne River as it spills from Camanche Dam. Birding experts Liz West and Joanne Katanic will share their knowledge about the local landscape and help you scout 35+ species including bluebirds, night herons, several woodpecker species, mergansers, Osprey and other raptors. As an added treat, keep an eye out for spawning salmon as they complete their journey from the Pacific Ocean!

TOUR TIME: 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

NOTE: Do not follow Google Maps directions to this tour. It will take you to the north side of the river by mistake.

DIRECTIONS: IMPORTANT, This tour takes place on the south side of the Mokelumne River with access from Route 12 on N. Mcintire  Road.  Mcintire Road is located between the towns of Clements and Walace on Route 12. The address is 25800 N. Mcintire Rd. but be aware that Google Maps may send you to the North side of the river by mistake. Meet your guides at the entrance to the Mokelumne River Day Use parking lot at 7:30 a.m. Watch for the entrance hut on your left.

LANDS PASS: No Lands Pass if required for this tour.

LATE REGISTRATION: Customers who register online after October 26 must present a hard copy or phone display the email receipt to their tour guide at the time of the tour.

This map can be used to search for the best route to your tour from your current location. Drive time from Hutchins Street Square in Lodi, California to this tour is approximately 30 minutes.

Caution: If you enter the address for the Mokelumne River Day Use Area, Google will incorrectly send you to the wrong side of the river. Use this map to find Mcintire Rd. on Route 12. Follow Mcintire to the end of the road where you will find the Day Use Area.

WHERE AND WHEN TO MEET YOUR GUIDE: Meet your guides at the entrance to the Mokelumne River Day Use parking lot at 7:30 a.m. Watch for the entrance hut on your left.

 CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refunds (minus a 3% processing fee) are available prior to a tour upon the customer’s request at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org. A full refund is automatically issued for any events cancelled by the festival organizers.

Arrive at the Mokelumne River Day Use Area and the tour begins.

It is best to dress in layers.  The foothills can be very cool in the morning and evening, but quite warm in the afternoon.

There is no food or water available on this tour, so participants are encouraged to bring a snack and a bottle of water if they like.

No, this tour does not require a Lands Pass.

Binoculars and a spotting scope may be brought on this tour but should be light enough to carry a mile or two.

You should definitely bring your camera.

Yes, handicap accessible restrooms or port-a-potty is available at the tour site. Nevertheless, everyone should use the restroom before the tour begins.

This tour requires the ability to walk a mile or two over generally level and even terrain.

This tour requires the ability to stand for at least an hour.

There may not be handicap parking available at the site

This tour is not wheelchair accessible.

In general, it is not acceptable to bring dogs to the festival or on tours because they may interfere with other participants or disturb wildlife. Service animals must be handled so as not to disturb other people or wildlife. 

There are many insects, including mosquitos near the water, so long sleeve shirts and long pants are recommended. Insect repellent is recommended.
