About the Association

The Lodi Sandhill Crane Association (LSCA) is the premier non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization promoting the awareness and understanding of the magnificent sandhill cranes that have been wintering in the California Delta for thousands of years.

In 1996, a group of volunteers came together with the City of Lodi, the Lodi Chamber of Commerce and the California Department of Fish and Game (now Fish and Wildlife) to plan a celebration in honor of these magnificent birds that come “back home” every year. The first Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival was held in 1997. The Festival was such a success that it rapidly grew, drawing visitors from all over California, and beyond.

Eventually, the volunteers incorporated, forming the Association to foster a greater measure of outreach, with the Festival continuing to be the centerpiece activity the first weekend of every November.

2025 is bringing about big changes in the Association with the retirement of several long time leaders. A concerted effort is being made to recruit new leadership. The outreach committee has had good success so far. Contact the association if you are interested in becoming involved.
