TOUR #123 – FAMILY WETLANDS ADVENTURE, NOVEMBER 3, 2023

Want to get your kids involved in the Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival? This tour is the perfect way to start. Join us at the Cosumnes River Preserve boardwalk where your family will have a chance to see waterfowl and maybe Sandhill Cranes through our spotting scopes. Naturalists will be there to help and answer your questions. They will also have microscopes set up so children can view the critters that live in pond water.

Follow up on this tour by bringing the family to Hutchins Street Square on Saturday or Sunday to see live animal presentations, to fold paper origami cranes, to do hands on science, and participate in other kid centered activities.

Tour time: 3:50 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

DIRECTIONS: The Cosumnes River Preserve is located on Franklin Road, which is East and parallel to Interstate 5. Take the Walnut Grove/Thornton exit on Interstate 5, turn left, then left onto Franklin Road. Meet your guide at the Cosumnes River Preserve boardwalk parking lot, 3 tenths of a mile north of the visitor center parking lot. (13501 Franklin Blvd., Galt, CA). Be prepared to walk a mile or two on a smooth boardwalk. NOTE: Franklin Blvd. may be closed between Twin Cities Road and the preserve.

This tour begins and ends at the Cosumnes River Preserve boardwalk parking lot, 3 tenths of a mile north of the visitor center parking lot. (13501 Franklin Blvd., Galt, CA).  Meet your guide at 3:50 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023.

QUESTIONS REGARDING REGISTRATION: Contact the Registration Coordinator at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org or leave a message at (800) 581-6150. Notify the Registration Coordinator in advance if special accommodations are needed. Expect a response from the Coordinator within the week.

Cancellation Policy: Full refunds (minus a 3% processing fee) are available prior to a tour upon the customer’s request at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org. A full refund is automatically issued for any events cancelled by the festival organizers.

Depart the Cosumnes River Preserve Visitor Center.

It is best to dress in layers.  The delta can be very cool in the morning and evening, but quite warm in the afternoon.

There is no food or water available on this tour, so participants are encouraged to bring a snack and a bottle of water if they like.

No, this tour does not require a Lands Pass.

Binoculars and a spotting scope may be brought on this tour.  Spotting scopes should be light enough to easily carry up to two miles.

You should definitely bring your camera.

Yes, handicap accessible restrooms or port-a-potty is available at the tour site. Nevertheless, everyone should use the restroom before the tour begins.

This tour requires the ability to walk a mile or two over generally level and even terrain.

This tour requires the ability to stand for at least an hour.

Yes, there is handicap parking available at the Visitor Center.

This tour site has hard surfaces with some unevenness and or slight inclines. It is wheelchair accessible to most viewing areas.

The Cosumnes River Preserve does not allow dogs. In general, it is not acceptable to bring dogs to the festival or on tours because they may interfere with other participants or disturb wildlife. Service animals must be handled so as not to disturb other people or wildlife. 

There are many insects, including mosquitos near the water, so long sleeve shirts and long pants are recommended. Insect repellent is recommended.
