TOUR #1424 – River Bird Walk and Picnic at Heritage Oak Winery – November 2, 2024

DESCRIPTION: Stroll picturesque vineyards and an old-growth riparian forest along the Mokelumne River with local birding expert David Yee. Participants will scan the vegetation and skies looking for species to add to the Winery’s monthly list. At the end of your walk, relax and talk birds with other enthusiasts on the Heritage Oak Winery patio while you enjoy Tom and Carmela Hoffman’s handcrafted wines and a delicious box lunch from the popular Big Belly Deli sandwich shop. If you are lucky, the hummingbird feeders will be buzzing with various species. Lunch, great wine, birds, and nature … what else is there? Round trip walking on the trail is approximately 2.5 miles, so bring your walking shoes and binoculars. For more about the winery, visit www.heritageoakwinery.com (must be 21).

DIRECTIONS TO THE TOUR: Drive north of Lodi on Highway 99 for three miles to the Acampo Road exit. Veer to the right then left and drive east on Acampo Road for 3 miles to Buck Road. Turn right on Buck Road and drive south for 2 miles and turn left on Woodbridge Road. In two tenths of a mile, Heritage Oak Winery will be on your right.

LANDS PASS: No Lands Pass is required for this tour.

WHERE AND WHEN TO MEET YOUR GUIDE: Meet your guide in front of the Heritage Oak Winery (10112 Woodbridge Road, Acampo, CA, 95220) at 9:15 a.m.

QUESTIONS REGARDING REGISTRATION: Contact the Registration Coordinator at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org or leave a message at (800) 581-6150. Notify the Registration Coordinator in advance if special accommodations are needed. Expect a response from the Coordinator within the week.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refunds (minus a 3% processing fee) are available prior to a tour upon the customer’s request at tours@lodisandhillcrane.org. A full refund is automatically issued for any events cancelled by the festival organizers.

It is best to dress in layers.  The area can be very cool in the morning and evening, but quite warm in the afternoon.

Lunch and water is provided after the tour.

No, this tour does not require a Lands Pass.

Binoculars and a spotting scope may be brought on this tour but should be light enough to carry two miles or more.

You should definitely bring your camera.

Yes, handicap accessible restrooms or port-a-potty is available at the winery. There are no restrooms available on the hike. Therefore, everyone should use the restroom before the tour begins.

This tour requires the ability to walk several miles over uneven or rough terrain. This tour requires the ability to stand for at least an hour.

Handicap parking may not be available

The tour is not wheelchair accessable.

In general, it is not acceptable to bring dogs to the festival or on tours because they may interfere with other participants or disturb wildlife. Service animals must be handled so as not to disturb other people or wildlife. 

There are many insects, including mosquitos near the water, so long sleeve shirts and long pants are recommended. Insect repellent is recommended.
